Though I think a better way to get back on the bike needs to be found, as using the same button used for dodging can sometimes screw you up during boss fights. But that's probably for the best as it's better to have the bike be situational then a straight-up upgrade. It did receive a nerf from the first game though because Carol can no longer do her Chun-Li kicks it's always generally better to fight bosses without the bike. In terms of power-ups, her bike is probably the most useful in the game (because it's permanent) and it feels like the only reason this game has power-ups in the first place is so that the bike can exist. Spamming her Jump Kick can really accelerate her momentum, and her Boot Swipe can give her a lot of air time and is probably her 2nd most reliable way to do damage next to the Disk. In comparison to Lilac, what Carol lacks in speed she more than makes up for it in terms of mobility, as she feels more precise to control and her wall climbing allows her to skip past part of the levels that others have to go through (IMO, this also makes her the best character for exploration despite Milla being labeled as the Explorer type). It's pretty much your primary tool to do everything when playing as her, and is one of the best moves in the game. I still think giving her the Super Dragon boost from the first game would of been a better power-up, but I can understand if the devs might of thought that'd break the game on levels not designed for it.Ĭarol: Her Jump Disk is probably the single best improvement from FP1. Her power-up felt kinda weak though the projectiles gained from Energizer are pretty much useless because Lilac is a character designed to be attacking up-close, though it does speed up your energy recharging which means you can temporarily boost more often. Plus being able to cancel your Dragon Boost makes it more useful as a platforming tool. You can do a crazy amount of damage with the basic Cyclone>Dragon Boost> Boost Breaker combo on bosses, and the invincibility frames you get from Dragon Boosting makes it extremely reliable. Lilac: I thought Lilac was already great in the first Freedom Planet, but the Boost Breaker elevates her even higher. Overall I'd say it's either a toss up between Carol and Lilac, but here's my general opinion on all the characters: In the first Freedom Planet, Lilac was my clear favorite character gameplay-wise (Carol had moves that were too dependent on the stage like the Bike and Jump Pads and Milla's attacks were too slow), but in this game it's much harder decide. I've beaten the game with all 4 characters, and I have to say that congrats to the developers for how fun they made them all to play.
